Cluain Council Meeting 21st July 2018
Start time: 2.11pm
Finish time: 2.50pm
Present: Dave Whitby (‘Ed’), Sue Whitby, Nathan, Roger Win, Liz Brodie, Jeanette (‘Netty’) Reid, Nathanael & Melissa Broussard
Apologies: Michelle & Trent Deakin
Previous minutes approved by Ed, seconded by Roger.
Officers’ Reports:
Reeve – Nathanael
Nathanael has access to the bank account and has submitted his quarterly report. E-mails are now directed to him for reeve. Ed to send link to Nathanael to join the Cluain Council e-mail list.
Marshall – Roger
Enderley Hall (previously used by HNB for training) is not available at a suitable time on Wednesdays but is currently available from 7.30pm on Mondays. Rob & Sarah need to terminate their agreement with the council for the HNB training time so this can be freed up for others. Roger will contact the council to check if they have any other premises under cover that could be used for fighters’ practices. The current venue for fighters’ practice has been added to Cluain’s website.
3 sets of loaner gear have been completed by Roger now and just the leg armour is needed to complete a 4th set. Quarterly report sent.
A&S Officer – Liz
Knife making workshop is fully booked. Nathanael & Melissa have volunteered to help and Roger may help too.
Liz is considering a seat making project for the group, ranging from making a seat or a cushion to decorating an existing seat. There was discussion about the possibility of this being set as a competition for St Sebs. Ed mentioned that St Sebs’ game will have a travel theme, so this is another consideration for potential A&S competitions.
Seneshal – Ed
The commentary period has been completed and there has been no contact from the Kingdom Hospitaller, so Netty is considered to be confirmed as the new Chatelaine.
The same sort of situation occurred for the recruitment of a new Webwright, so as of this meeting Melissa is taking over this role.
Cluain has 32 members (up from 24 this time last year). Sh… don’t tell anyone, but the aim is to get more than Ildhafn’s 35 members.
Quartermaster – Netty
Nothing to report.
Ed proposed that all club property (apart from archery and fighting gear) be stored at Braythwayte Manor and volunteered to take over as quartermaster.
Webwright – Ed
As his last action in the role, Ed updated the list of officers. He asked if the new webwright could look into Meet Up to find newcomers.
Melissa has rearranged the Cluain website gallery into chronological order. Ed to send link to Melissa to join the Cluain Council e-mail list.
Chatelaine – Sue
Newcomer list was handed over to Netty as she took on the role of chatelaine. Sue had completed the quarterly report.
Herald – Trent
Sent his quarterly report and an e-mail in his absence from this meeting:
Have touched based with Gerard and confirmed that he is happy to retain Etain in the development of his device – still to forward this information to Fiora. Also means that we have a part time book herald operating out of Ildhafn who is happy to pick up the odd item.
Have progressed Maerwynn’s Device to a point it is ready for submission but still to finalise byname.
Have also worked a bit on Ormhildr’s device but need…
Still to make sure there are no outstanding items with regards to 3 members submissions.
Upcoming Events:
Knife making workshop:
The workshop in Rotorua in August is fully booked. Another date will be offered sometime in the future.
Turn shoe workshop:
Ed will be running this in Ildhafn in September.
NAAMA:
This is on Labour weekend. Decide soon if we’ll want oil lamps, as Liz & Roger will be away.
St Sebastian’s 2019:
This will be in March as usual. Ed & Elizabeth will be stewards and are looking for a meal planner/ cook, a marshal and an assistant steward.
General Business:
Melissa and Nathanael found 180cm lengths of rattan available in a range of diameters for $50-60 each. The minimum amount to purchase is 5 lengths. These are best to be offered through personal funding instead of through the club.
Next Hastilude:
To be held in Eureka on 18th August.
Venue to be found for 15th September.
Nathanael & Melissa offered their home as venue after October.
