Matters arising from previous meeting

The Cluain Westpac account authorisations are working properly now.

All e-mail links have been updated for Cluain officers.

A&S competitions are now sorted for Midwinter Coronation.

Officer’s Reports:

Reeve – Roger

  • The current balance is $3453.87, which includes some bookings already paid for St Sebastian’s and Midwinter Coronation.
  • Coronation bookings are almost half-way to the break-even numbers and many of the bookings are from overseas. (Coronation was verbally advertised by the stewards at Canterbury Faire which might contribute to current/ future bookings).

Marshall – Roger

  • Roger now has two loan kits for newcomers. Additional boffer gear has reappeared.
  • Started practice recommenced a few days ago and there were 4 in armour – Roger, Connor, Nathan and Adam Bazeley.

A&S - Liz

  • At Canterbury Faire Liz strongly encouraged (hassled) the Kingdom A&S Officer to organise the Crown A&S competition for July, which has now been announced.
  • Next group project – a heraldic Cluain banner, ideally the same size as Ildhafn’s. Trent was volunteered to draw the bull.

Herald – Alex

Nothing to report.

Seneschal – Ed

Nothing to report.

Webwright- Ed

  • Some of the newcomers’ area has been updated.
  • Coronation bookings appear to be working now.

Chatelaine - Sue

  • Unable to contact Danielle Fenton-Williams on the phone numbers provided, but will keep trying to get in touch. Netty advised that Facebook might be the best way to contact Danielle.
  • Stephen Stevens contacted us via Facebook and is interested in SCA activities but might have an issue getting time off work.
  • Nicole MacKenzie made contact via Geoff and is interested in attending St Sebs with a friend and will be encouraged to do so.
  • Andria is an SCA member and is active in medieval events such as Tauranga Medieval Faire but hasn’t been to a Cluain event yet.
  • Roger announced the aim of building the Canton up to 50 members within the next 5 years.

Upcoming events - Ed:

St Sebastian’s

  • Meals are being sorted. No outstanding issues at present.

Waldorf Festival

  • Geoff and Wulfings likely to run Have-a-Go archery as usual.
  • Ideas for other have-a go’s for a gold coin:

-   Making a pewter token – Ed

-   Making fire & maybe beeswax candle – Ed

-   Sealing wax – Trent, Fina & Ed

-   Tablet weaving – Sympkin?

-   Quill making and writing – Trent. Ed to bring feathers and chafing dish. Maybe Trent to create a parchment piece for personalising.

-   Heavy fighting – Roger. Alex volunteered that Sam may be involved.

-   Boffer – Duncan and Knightsbridge children.

  • Netty has a box of the Cluain leaflets that can be handed to people potentially interested in the SCA.

Midwinter Coronation

  • Are we supplying the list field? Roger to check the condition of it.
  • Netty’s family and Shelley are happy to do guiding.
  • Bartholomew and Sarah had a chat at CF about gatekeeper software for a laptop computer. Trent was voluntold to be involved with gate.

Quartermaster – Netty

  • No progress on finding out who has what yet. Everyone at the meeting was asked to e-mail Netty with any Cluain stores that they hold at present. She was advised that there should be 2 rapier masks, sets of gloves and at least 2 rapiers.
  • Fina has a large stack of recently rescued Gold Key to get to Sue. She also has table cloths/ runners etc.

Further business

  • We may need to borrow Ildhafn SCA boards to direct people to Coronation (after checking with Hamilton Gardens and/or Council).

Next meeting

Date to be decided – probably after St Sebs and Waldorf Festival.
