Cluain Council Meeting 16th June 2018

Start time: 2.25pm

Finish time: 2.50pm

Present: Dave Whitby (‘Ed’), Sue Whitby, Roger Win, Keith Mudgway, Liz Brodie, Cheryl Graham, Nathanael & Melissa Broussard, Michelle & Trent Deakin

Previous minutes approved by Liz, seconded by Trent.

(Meeting start delayed by activity of setting up for midwinter camp, not laziness or tardiness!)

Officers’ Reports:

Reeve – Nathanael

No access to bank account yet, so cannot say how much money is (or isn’t) in the account.

Reeve e-mail address has been updated.

Ed advised that most of the people who’ve booked have paid for midwinter camp.

Marshall – Roger

Roger has posted about fighters’ practice once on Facebook so far.

Adverse weather has again limited fighters’ practices recently. Roger is to approach Hamilton Council about an agreement to use the indoor venue that was being used for HNB practices until recently.

Roger has lined and added chin straps to 2 helms and completed 2 swords for loaner gear.

A&S Officer – Liz

The plan to make woollen pot holders/ mitts at the last Hastilude didn’t work out due to lack of materials, but the linen food covers were made and some mitts have been made since then.

Liz is still to devise an A&S challenge for the populace.

A spoon making workshop will be held in Auckland soon, with a knife making workshop in Rotorua later.

Chatelaine – Sue

Sharing of transport has enabled several of the newer members to attend this Hastilude.

Karleigh-Jane is a member of the SCA who lives in Tauranga but has signed up to Darton. Sue to follow up to advise her of her local group.

Herald – Trent

Trent has completed the device for Michelle and needs a name to register for her, then he will work on other outstanding registrations, including the Knightsbridges.

There’s a proposal pending for a Lochac based symposium for the Known World in 2020 for scribes and heralds.

Seneschal – Ed

We’re still struggling to get people to run events, even for 1 day L

An e-mail advert has been posted for a replacement chatelaine and seneschal but there have been no volunteers yet.

Matters Arising from Previous Minutes:

Fina needs to be followed up about her offer of running an event – Ed

We still want to look at getting the group on ‘Meet-Up’.

Upcoming Events:

Midwinter fire camp:

Scheduled for next weekend.

Ed had a meeting with the baron, baroness and seneschal of Ildhafn and came up with ideas for workshops, as mentioned earlier. There’ll be a St Cath’s replacement event, but no St John’s nor Labour weekend at Braythwayte Manor.

The lack of stewards is affecting Ildhafn and Cluain. Ed would do the booking form for an event and experienced co-stewards can help.

General Business:

NAAMA will be in October. Enough of Cluain are going for it to be worth seeing if the SCA can be grouped together. Liz and Rog will be unavailable so we need to let them know in advance if we need any of their gear.

Keith raised the idea of holding a meeting in garb in Hamilton rose garden. There was discussion about whether a tourney and/ or other activity could encourage newcomers.

Next Hastilude:

To be held at Liz and Roger’s in Eureka, on 21st July.
