Labour Weekend Living History 2021

Escape to a previous century and immerse yourself in a slower pace of life for 3 days of living history at Braythwayte Manor in Rotorua this Labour Weekend (Friday 22nd to Monday 25th October)

This is a family-friendly, fully catered camping event with all food stored and prepared in the camp and cooked over an open fire. There is no set timetable so you can do as you please or join in with whatever is happening at the time. There will be crafts, music, games, archery and fighting, singing, cooking, stories, quaffing and fine fellowship around the fire. Everyone is assured of a warm welcome whether this is your first event or you are an 'old-timer'.

You don't need to have a period style tent to come along, modern tents are fine as are campervans. You can also stay offsite and come along for part or all of the event. The site is fully fenced so you can bring your sociable pets along too!

This year the theme of the event will be Light and Illumination.

You are encouraged to enter an arts and sciences competition which will be judged at the event. This is a great excuse to set yourself a project to work on this winter. It should be based on the theme of light and illumination. This can be freely interpreted in any way you see fit. Light can be taken to mean lightweight and portable such as a travel item or you might consider illumination to inspire some scribal work!

Arts and science competitions are about participation, having some fun, learning and getting useful pointers from experienced artisans, so pick a project and have a go :)
